PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY IS KEY FOR ENABLING DIVERSITY IN THE WORKPLACE

By: Mark Marone

default alt tag

- Diverse teams can achieve greatness, but they need to exist in an inclusive environment that promotes psychological safety

- Psychological safety rests on the assurance that a team member will not be ridiculed or punished for making a mistake or speaking up with an idea

- The Dale Carnegie principles promote the cultural competencies necessary to cultivate psychological safety within diverse teams.

When was the last time someone told you “there are no stupid questions”? Did you believe them? Maybe you’ve said this as a manager, hoping to encourage discussion and help with clarity among your team. But in workplaces where inclusion and diversity are lacking, these attempts to open the lines of communication are met with silence.

10 TIPS FOR RUNNING A PRODUCTIVE AND ENGAGING VIRTUAL MEETING

By: Matt Norman

Feeling a little bit Zoomed out? You’re not alone. Several researchers and social scientists have weighed in recently on why virtual meetings can be so draining.

First, you experience a cognitive dissonance as your brain thinks you’re with someone but you can’t pick up all their non-verbal cues. Second, you typically have more distractions coming to you through the devices you’re using for the meeting. And finally, you’re processing the meeting while navigating bandwidth issues, technology features, audio quality, and what you look like on screen.

It can make the entire experience awkward and exhausting.

5 Time Management Tips to Avoid Festive Stress @ Work

July 20, 2019

default alt tag

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but for 73% of the UK workforce the build up to Christmas is anything but merry, with concerns that work will ruin their festive cheer.

Additional social commitments, end of year project deadlines, getting ready for ‘New year, new targets’ and trying to prepare for time-off, along with the pressure of being ready for the big day itself means the season of goodwill is a testing time for a lot of people.

Dale Carnegie's Global Standards

With the COVID-19 pandemic, we have raised our standards even higher, putting new protocols in place to meet the health and safety challenges of this virus.

Our Committment to Cleanliness

Our top priority is always protecting our team members and clients. Below are standards that we are promoting for use in all Dale Carnegie locations. Each facility will ensure that the following standards are always aligned to the local government’s requirements for the safety and protection of everyone. Daily, we will govern our business protocols to meet the latest guidelines established to fight against COVID-19. As these protocols change, we will update and follow them.

Wellness & Safety Routines

  • Daily Wellness Checks: Temperature checks, daily team member wellness checks. No one works sick
  • Team members will follow local guidelines. In locations where masks are recommended to be worn, they will be provided and required to wear masks. Gloves are optional
  • Frequent sanitation of high contact areas
  • Enhanced Handwashing Protocols
  • Manage social distancing practices – we will follow local social distancing guidelines, maintaining distances and no shaking hands

Cleanliness and Safety in the Training Room

Prescreening:

  • We will use a non-contact thermometer to check everybody’s temperature before entering the training room

Hygiene Protection:

  • Our trainers will wash and sanitize hands before and after sessions
  • In locations where masks are recommended to be worn, they will be provided and required to wear masks. Gloves are optional
  • Our tables and chairs are cleaned before sessions, during breaks and after sessions
  • We ask all participants to use one chair only during the entire session
  • Hand sanitizers and wipes will be available for participants as well as a no touch disposal

Physical Distancing:

  • Size of the room will be considered when determining the number of participants. Some governments may dictate the number of people in the training room. If this is not the case, the maximum number of people will be determined by the space needed for all of them and will follow local social distancing guidelines
  • Trainers will always maintain the required distance from participants, following local distancing guidelines
  • The number of participants is limited to ensure chairs will be placed apart, following local distancing guidelines
  • Activities are redesigned to ensure physical distance and no physical contact. We will greet our participants with a wave (not a handshake)
  • Participants will present directly from their own seat
  • Participants will use the same chair during session (no changing seat activities)
  • Small group activities will be limited; If using small groups we will follow local distancing guidelines
  • Partner practice only if there is enough space available to maintain local distancing guidelines
  • Participants should limit personal belongings brought into the training room

Any participants who are sick or experiencing any symptoms will be required to stay at home and contact their healthcare provider immediately as outlined by the WHO or CDC guidelines.
