Mayor Becomes First Individual to Receive DCT Leadership Award

Hauppauge, NY (June XX, 2007) - Dale Carnegie Training, the influential global business training company with more than 93 years of operation, today announces Mayor John Wright Hickenlooper as recipient of 2007 Dale Carnegie Leadership Award. One of only ten awards are presented annually worldwide, and this marks the first time that the esteemed award has been bestowed upon an individual, as opposed to a company or organization.

As mayor, Hickenlooper's first tasks included taking on the city's budget crisis and reforming its career personnel system. He broke with the past tradition of appointing political insiders to his cabinet and selected a youthful crew of appointees. In April 2005, he was named one of the top 5 big-city mayors in America by Time magazine. Although several of his predecessors had attempted and failed, Hickenlooper also successfully lobbied to bring the Democratic National Convention to Denver in 2008.

The Dale Carnegie Leadership Award is presented to an individual or company who is a major contributor to its country's economy and society through a special emphasis on the development of its human resources, innovation and organizational creativity. The first Dale Carnegie Leadership Award was presented in 1985 to The Ford Motor Company. Other past winners include: Coca-Cola, Adidas, The Boeing Company, State Farm Insurance, Stop & Shop, Wal-Mart, Campbell Soup and The Four Seasons Hotel.
